Tavira is a Portuguese city of Faro district, region and sub-region of the Algarve, with about 15,133 inhabitants. It is a municipality with 606.98 km² and 26,167 inhabitants (2011), divided into nine parishes. The municipality is bordered to the northeast by the municipality of Alcoutim, east of Castro Marim and the western part of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, on the southwest by Olhão on the west by São Brás and Loulé and has coastline on the southern ocean Atlantic. Is located in the Sotavento (Eastern Algarve).
